Understanding the Role

Ochsner Health is recruiting a Pediatric Epileptologist to join its Child Neurology team at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The position is driven by strong and growing patient demand, with new patient wait times currently at eight weeks and follow-up appointments at four weeks. The program is actively expanding and plans to add at least four Child Neurologists ahead of the opening of a new dedicated Children's Hospital in 2027.

The role is primarily focused on pediatric epilepsy but may include a component of general pediatric neurology. Both outpatient and inpatient evaluations are part of the role, with diagnostic services including EEG.

Typical Weekly Schedule

Virtual clinic twice per week
Epilepsy surgery conference every two weeks
Daily EEG reading

Position Highlights

Join an established, fellowship-trained team with subspecialty infrastructure already in place
Level IV Epilepsy Monitoring Unit currently at 4 beds, expanding to 6 beds in the new hospital
APP support in both clinic and inpatient settings; APPs take call and manage consults independently
Call is primarily home-based with rare hospital presentations; scheduled six months in advance
New Children's Hospital opening in 2027 brings significant program development opportunity
Working toward Level I or Level II Pediatric Trauma Center designation

Qualifications

Board certified or board eligible in Child Neurology
Fellowship training in Epilepsy required
Interest in or experience with epilepsy surgery evaluation preferred
