Physician Recruitment Process and Compensation Overview

Compensation and Benefits

Mercy Clinic Joplin offers a compensation package built around income stability, professional flexibility, and long-term financial security. The structure is straightforward: a strong two-year guarantee, meaningful recruitment incentives, and a clear path to productivity-based earnings backed by comprehensive benefits.

Compensation Overview

Guarantee and Recruitment Incentives

Component Detail
Two-Year Salary Guarantee $800,000 per year
Recruitment Incentives $100,000 total
Relocation Assistance $20,000

The $800,000 two-year guarantee provides full income protection during ramp-up, removing the financial uncertainty that often accompanies a new practice launch. Following the guarantee period, compensation transitions to a wRVU-based productivity model, allowing earnings to grow in line with clinical output.

The $100,000 in recruitment incentives adds immediate financial value beyond base compensation and pairs with the $20,000 relocation package to make the transition to Joplin financially manageable.

Compensation Model

  • Two-year salary guarantee at $800,000 annually
  • wRVU-based productivity model after the guarantee period, with earnings tied directly to clinical output
  • Quality incentives based on patient satisfaction scores, clinical outcomes, and adherence to evidence-based guidelines, including Net Provider Score (NPS) performance above 90%

Benefits Package

Time Off

During the guarantee period, physicians receive:

  • 4 weeks of vacation
  • 6 paid holidays
  • 1 week of CME leave

Malpractice Coverage

  • Occurrence-based malpractice insurance — no tail coverage required

This is a meaningful financial advantage. Occurrence-based policies cover claims arising from events during the coverage period regardless of when the claim is filed, eliminating the expense of purchasing tail coverage at departure.

Retirement

Mercy offers three retirement vehicles:

  • 401(k)
  • 403(b)
  • 457(b)

The 457(b) plan allows additional pre-tax or post-tax contributions beyond the standard IRS limits for 401(k) and 403(b) accounts, providing a meaningful wealth-building advantage for higher-income earners.

Student Loan Repayment

  • Mercy qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) as a nonprofit health system, which can result in significant loan forgiveness for qualifying physicians after 10 years of eligible payments under an income-driven repayment plan.

Health and Wellness

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Life insurance

CME

  • Annual CME allowance with paid leave
