Position Overview

Understanding the Role

A Career-Defining Role in Obstetric Anesthesia

Imagine stepping into a role where your expertise as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is not only valued but essential—where you serve as the primary anesthesia provider for one of life’s most profound moments. At Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, you will join a long-established and autonomous Obstetric Anesthesia team that has earned a reputation for clinical excellence, stability, and an exceptional culture built on mutual trust and collaboration.

This position places you at the heart of a busy, high-volume Labor & Delivery unit serving the Charleston metropolitan area—a region where families depend on skilled providers to deliver safe, compassionate care during childbirth. With approximately 225 deliveries each month, you will find yourself engaged in meaningful, rewarding work that directly impacts mothers and newborns throughout this vibrant coastal community. The need for dedicated OB anesthesia expertise here is genuine, and you will fill a vital role on a team that takes immense pride in the care they provide.

An Unparalleled Lifestyle Schedule

What truly distinguishes this opportunity is a schedule designed with your life in mind. Working 24-hour shifts on a fixed 28-day rotation, you will complete just seven shifts per cycle—with every fourth week entirely off. This translates to approximately 91-92 working days per year and more than 270 days away from the hospital. Unlike the relentless schedules that burn out so many anesthesia providers, this structure gives you the freedom to travel, pursue outside interests, spend unhurried time with family, or simply recharge. You are effectively working three months of clinical time annually while receiving full compensation and comprehensive benefits.

  • Annual Workload: Approximately 91-92 clinical days per year, offering an extraordinary work-life balance rarely found in anesthesia practice
  • Qualifications: Current CRNA certification required; Compact Nursing License preferred to expedite onboarding
  • Credentialing Timeline: 60 days for candidates already licensed in South Carolina; 90-120 days if a new state license is required

This is more than a job—it is an invitation to practice at the top of your license in a supportive, autonomous environment while enjoying a lifestyle that most healthcare professionals only dream about. In Charleston, you will find not just a position, but a place where your career and personal life can truly flourish together.
